While Porsche will not sell you a replacement shift rod distance sensor there are several aftermarket alternatives. The pros and cons of each are discussed below.
The T-design unit was the first aftermarket offering and is generally considered the market leader. This sensor comes in two parts, the sensor housing and a wire harness. The wire harness is attached to the sensor housing using a small connector with two set screws. The harness needs to be spliced (soldered) onto the existing OEM harness and plug. This unfortunately creates new failure points and makes routing the (thicker and stiffer) wire bundle more difficult. The fact that all the wires are white also make it easy to make a mistake when matching them up with the OEM harness. There has also been reports of failures of the connector, possibly due to over-tightening the set screws. Finally, there are a number of reports about issues with passing the calibration routine following installation. Pricing is not published by the manufacturer but reports are that it retails for approximately $2,000.

XeMODeX is company with a lot of experience offering similar products to the automotive market. While we don't have much customer feedback from the field it appears to be a high quality product. Unfortunately, just like the T-Design unit, it requires the installer to splice wires into the factory harness. To clarify, it comes complete with the OEM connector and wiring for the distance sensor but the wires for the Speed Sensor have to be spliced in. Pricing is set at $2,199.

The JUMPS offering is the latest to market and was developed by a team of Porsche enthusiasts to address the high cost of current offerings and installation challenges. It is sold only as a complete unit with both the Distance and Speed Sensors and a complete harness / connector. This makes the installation quicker and significantly simplifies it while eliminating several potential failure modes. To date, there have been no reports of failed calibrations or unit failures. Unlike the other offerings, the JUMPS sensor comes in two version, one for the 911 and one for the Cayman / Boxster platform. This optimization is likely a major reason for the lack of calibration issues. Pricing is clearly the best in the category with a complete assembly selling for $1,000. Sales are through email (jumps.sensor@gmail.com) request only using PayPal for payment. At this time there is no formal online store front.

There are also several used or re-manufactured OEM like sensors offered by sellers in China. We advise against these as the quality is unknown and any issues with the sensor would be costly and time consuming. Additionally, you would end up with a sensor that is no better than the one you replaced unlike the other offerings above.
While Porsche will not sell you a replacement speed sensor there are a couple of aftermarket alternatives. The pros and cons of each are discussed below.
The T-design unit was the first aftermarket offering and is generally considered the market leader with market share likely exceeding 50%. This sensor comes in two parts, the sensor housing and a wire harness. The wire harness is attached to the sensor housing using a small connector with two set screws. The Harness needs to be spliced into the existing OEM harness and plug. This unfortunately creates new failure points and makes routing the (thicker) harness and stiffer) wire bundle more difficult. There has also been reports of failures of the connector, possibly due to over-tightening the set screws. Pricing is not published by the manufacturer but reports are that it retails for approximately $1,139.
While currently the standard on the market, is has been surpassed by more recent offerings in both quality and price.
